Priestly formation

All formation at Bidasoa is:
  • Aimed at forming true shepherds according to the example of Jesus Christ, Head and Shepherd of the Church.
  • Aimed at preparing seminarians to share in the Church's salvific mission in the world (cfr Pastores dabo vobis, n. 61).

The main objective of the International College is to serve the particular churches and therefore the universal Church. It seeks to contribute to resolving the urgent need for priests who are able to integrate their human, intellectual, spiritual, pastoral and apostolic preparation, with true fidelity to the directives of the Roman Pontiff and the Episcopal College.

The University of Navarre seeks to unite all the human sciences, treating them in an interdisciplinary manner.
The collaboration among the different Faculties and Departments of the University permits a deep, up-to-date and complete formation, in view of the challenges of the contemporary world.
 

Human formation

The formation program at the International College is inspired by the documents of the Second Vatican Council (especially the Decrees Optatam Totius and Presbyterorum Ordinis), the Apostolic Exhortation "Pastores dabo vobis," and the Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis of the Congregation for Catholic Education.

The formation received seeks to nurture the virtues needed by a minister of Christ, including:  

  • Stability of spirit
  • Ability to judge
  • Responsibility
  • Sincerity
  • Concern for justice
  • Fidelity to one's word
  • Capacity of relating with others
  • Affective maturity

 

Intellectual formation

 

Many bishops from around the world, moved by the prestige of the University of Navarre, send a number of seminarians to undertake their studies on the Institutional Course (Cicle I) at the Faculty of Theology. These seminarians find at Bidasoa an environment of trust and freedom, as well as an atmosphere of serious study which prepares them for priestly ministry in today's world.

The teaching undertaken at the University of Navarre seeks to awaken a love for truth, contributing to the development of one's human personality in all its dimensions, thus fostering fraternity and solidarity expressed through deeds of service.

 

Spiritual formation

All activities at Bidasoa help the students to acquire a progressive configuration to Christ the Priest, through an intense relationship with God.

For the future exercise of their ministry, the students forge their spiritual formation by means of: 

  • Daily participation in the celebration of the Eucharist
  • Praying the Liturgy of the Hours and the Holy Rosary.
  • Frequenting the Sacrament of Confession.
  • Practicing mental prayer.
  • Esteeming the Cross.
  • Other devotional practices.
